Motorists have been warned to avoid one of the main approaches to Exeter after reports of "extremely heavy" traffic. Congestion in the area has been building after a cement mixer fell off a lorry at the A376 Exmouth Road at the Clyst St Mary roundabout

The incident happened at around 4pm. No-one has been injured in the incident.

The Clyst St Mary roundabout is currently closed in both directions with Devon County Council warning motorists to stay away from the area. A council spokesperson warned those already in the area to allow extra time for their journey.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were alerted to an incident on the A376 at Clyst St George following reports of a cement mixer coming off the back of a lorry. Devon Highways attended following a large amount of cement being on the road.

"This has caused a closure on at the roundabout on Exeter Road. Drivers advised to avoid the area for the time being while a clean-up takes place."

In a statement published on Twitter, Devon Alert (Devon County Council) said: "The A376 is closed between Clyst st Mary and Clyst st George due to a RTC. Traffic is extremely heavy around Sandygate as a result. Please allow extra time for your journey and avoid the area if possible."
